Kingfisher – Part 1

“Kingfisher is een instrumentaal stuk dat ik in de basis schreef aan de oever van de wiel in Wamel, waar ik op de beestenboerderij van mijn zus paste. Er zaten daar ijsvogeltjes, en iedere keer als er weer zo’n blauw-oranje flits voorbij kwam was het feest. Maar ondertussen zijn het natuurlijk wel meedogenloze moordenaars die zonder pardon die lieve stekelbaarsjes uit het water rammen. Geschut voldoende voor een gedicht, dat in de opname wordt voorgedragen door Martin.” JeeWee Donkers

“Kingfisher” is an instrumental piece that I wrote basically on the bank of a gully in Wamel, the Netherlands, where my sister has a small farm house. There were kingfishers there, and every time I saw another blue-orange flash fly by, I felt like celebrating. But at the same time, of course, they are ruthless murderers who mercilessly rip those sweet sticklebacks out of the water. Sufficient material for a poem, which is recited in the recording by bass player Martin.” JeeWee Donkers
