Comfort of Your Arms

Dit liedje is de tegenhanger van Both Of Us: de verteller is erg afhankelijk van de fysieke nabijheid van zijn geliefde. Hij heeft behoefte aan haar armen om hem heen, om hem te troosten en om sterk te zijn voor hun tweeën. En dat werkt, want als dat is geregeld, gaat verder alles van een leien dakje.

De basis van het liedje kwam van een Jeffrey Foucault-achtige riff waar ik tegensaan liep. De tekst lag eigenlijk al klaar. We hebben veel tijd besteed aan de kleur en sfeer van dit liedje, spelend met tempo en instrumentenkeuze. Op een gegeven moment zat ik mee te spelen met ruwe opnames, en alles viel op z’n plek toen ik het pianothema met de dobro speelde.

Een ander deel waar we trots op zijn, is de subtiele vertraging in de brug (“the whole world seems to fade away”) die ons toevallig een keer overkwam, maar die zo krachtig was dat we hem erin lieten.

This song is the counterpart of Both of Us: the person telling the story is in desperate need of the physical presence of his beloved one. He needs her arms around him, to comfort him and to be strong for both of them. It works, because when she’s near, everything turns for the better.

The basis for this song comes from a Jeffrey Foucault-style riff I once stumbled upon. I had the lyrics lying around already. We spent quite some time finding the right mood and colour for this song, trying various tempi and instruments. When I was playing along at home with rudimentary mixes, copying the (then) piano theme with the dobro, everything came together.

Another part we’re proud of is the rallentando in the bridge (“the whole world seems to fade away”) which once happened accidentally, but was so powerful we kept it in.
